Each process is unique to each individual and the treatment plan will vary according to the therapeutic needs of the client.  In most cases before assessments are done the parent(s) or caregiver(s), are seen for an intake interview to gather all relevant information.  After the assessment, a feedback session is held with the parent(s) / caregiver(s).  Recommendations are discussed with the parent(s) / caregiver(s) during the feedback interview.

How does the process work?

This is how the process works in general:

  • 1 Hour intake interview with parents / caregivers

Limits of Confidentiality?

1. I, Dr. Annalize Green, shall not disclose any such information without your consent (subject to what is said in paragraph 2 below).

2. Certain exceptional situations or professional rules may however compel me to disclose information about you and/or, in the case of a child-client, your child. This includes:

a. Emergency situations
Should I believe that there is a real risk of you harming yourself, or your child harming him-/herself; and/or either of you harming myself or any other person, I will be compelled to take the necessary steps to prevent such harm.

b. Statutory duty
A provision in an Act may oblige me to disclose confidential information about you and/or your child.

c. Court Order
A court may order me to disclose confidential information regarding you and/or your child. According to my professional code, however, I will endeavour to do all that is in my power in order to prevent this.

3. With regards to children under the age of 18 (eighteen) years:
I will inform the parent/guardian on a regular basis about the therapeutic process and progress of the client, where relevant. As a general rule, no information will be given to a parent / guardian about the content of a session without the relevant child-client’s consent. The child-client has a right to privacy and, due to the therapeutic trust-relationship; it will not be possible for me to share the details of a therapeutic process with the parent / guardian, although I will keep you informed on the therapeutic progress, where appropriate. In certain cases, I have the duty to divulge information should it appear that the relevant child makes him- or herself guilty of criminal behaviour, or threatens with, or is involved in behaviour which I consider to be dangerous or potentially harmful.

4. Medical aid schemes usually require a diagnosis before they will pay a psychologist’s account. A diagnosis code concerning the interventions will therefore be made known to your medical aid fund. You are therefore requested to inform me about your refusal in this regard before the service is rendered and/or the claim is made.
